A group of planners is recognizing projects under way in Tallahassee and surrounding counties for making a difference in the region's future.
The Capital Area Section of American Planning Association's Florida Chapter gave awards recognizing the Big Bend Scenic Byway, the Evening Rose development in Tallahassee, The Tennyson high-rise project in the city's downtown and the Friends of North Port St. Joe Strategic Plan.
"We wanted to find a way to make a positive statement about good planning in the capital area," said Darrin Taylor, the Capital Area Section chairman. He is a planner with the Carlton Fields law firm.
Private Project Award
K2 Urbancorp received the Private Project Award for its design of Evening Rose, the first development in Tallahassee to integrate inclusionary housing in its design. In announcing the award, the association said, "With its latest project, Evening Rose, the company has embraced principles advocated by the planning profession, including a concern for affordable housing and traditional neighborhood design." David Wamsley, CEO and managing partner, said, "K2 is committed to quality, mixed use, mixed income developments, and we're honored that the Florida American Planning Association has recognized Evening Rose."
